Remember monkey bars and feeling free as you flipped? Remember the dirty feet and spending your day in a bathing suit just because you could? Do you remember when you could swing so high that you were certain you would touch the sun? It was how I spent my summers. Bare feet in the grass and sand, sweaty from the hot day and playing until the sun went down.
Today I’m watching my children live out those summer days. The once tiny feet have grown into bigger ones that thud through the day noisily and filled with joy. Liv especially is no longer my baby. Her body is strong and lithe. She is changing daily and I want to yell at time to slow down. But time has a funny way of not listening to a mother’s heart as it breaks watching her children slip through her fingers. Before I know it those strong arms will rock her own babies to sleep and those bare feet will be chasing toddlers but for today she is still young and carefree. Today she is flipping and running; hair flying free as she lives out the fleeting days of her childhood. Today she is reaching for the sun and believing she will touch it. Soar high my sweet girl.

I am honored to be part of a blog circle this year with some incredibly talented women. We do not have a theme other than to reach outside of our comfort zones and shoot that which is out of the ordinary for us. My personal theme for this year is to shoot and create art from the everyday. I want to stretch myself beyond the average portrait of my children and capture them being…well…them. Here is a glimpse into our lives.
There was coloring. On the kitchen table. I think of all of the images I have captured this month, these particular images speak to who my kids are. Livi is ever the artist. She is thoughtful in a deeply intelligent way and serious in all that she does. Bella is my mover and shaker. There is rarely a moment that is still and silent. She dances, she contorts and she moves. Of all of my children, I think she has the biggest heart. She is content to let her sister take the spotlight despite her ability to steal the show. Emers is my little love. He is all boy. Oh my is he all boy. He climbs. On everything. And he is the baby of the family so he is doted on by everyone. Also the only boy in the house. He gets into and away with everything as evidenced by this first set of images.
Emers is also my pouter and he has the cutest pout ever in my humble opinion.
And independent. He wanted a bath, I was busy so he took matters into his own hands.
Bella is so full of joy that she makes me smile.
What can I say about Livi. Livi is an anomaly. One minute serious and contemplative and the next minute goofy and making us all laugh. This is her preferred method for watching TV. Don’t ask because I have no answers. She thinks it is funny to watch TV upside down.
My kids fight as do most siblings but they also love each other tremendously. They love to cuddle and snuggle and they have moments where I can see glimpses of the wonderful relationships they will have when they are older (and hopefully past the sibling rivalry).

Meet Bunny McBunz. Bunny has been in our family for 22 years now. Bunny doubles as a hot water bottle and when my now 22 year old was a baby her grandmother bought this for her crib. Bunny has been through newborns, colic, reflux. She has been there when someone is sick and when someone just needs a cuddle. Our beloved Bunny has seen smiles and tears and every child has had a chance to bond with and love on Bunny. It is my sincerest hope that my grandbabies will have that pleasure too.

I’m 99% certain that Emerson has spider in his veins. I’m 1000% certain that if I would let him, that costume would never leave his body. He runs around the house, crouching and contorting his hands to spin webs. And when he is angry with me he will quickly throw his hands into web spinning position, make this sound that goes something like SCHHHHHHHHHHHHH and then rapidly throw those hands at me like he is spinning me into a spiderweb. I crack up each and every time which only angers his cute little three year old self even more.
